POSITION SUMMARY:

The Charge RN in the Operating Room (OR) is responsible for the day to day function and overall coordination of patient care. The Charge RN provides leadership by example and works collaboratively with staff members as well as other department staff. He/she reviews and stays abreast of schedule changes, i.e., additions and cancellations, to assure that appropriate number and skill level of staff is available. This individual is tasked with providing for "on call" coverage 24 X 7 as well as coverage for last minute staff call offs and pre-scheduled vacations.

The Charge RN is the resource for the unit specific duties, tasks and responsibilities and oversees the operating rooms and endoscopy suite. Works closely with the PACU charge nurse in the daily functions of the surgical services department working together to ensure adequate staffing, timely patient admissions and discharges to optimize safe and efficient patient care.

The primary patients provided care in the Surgical Services Department are adults and geriatric patients. The charge nurse must be competent in the assessment of adult/senior patient for appropriate physiological, behavioral motor skills and psychological norms. He/she must be knowledgeable in recognizing changes in condition, signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and cognizant of safety issues, both environmental and medical. Pediatric patients are occasionally admitted, therefore the charge nurse must also be competent in assessment and care of children, including age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological/psychological developmental norms. He/she must be cognizant of safety, treatment/mediation, and immunization concerns of this age group as well as adults

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Graduate from a school of nursing with a degree, (BSN/MSN preferred)

Licensure:

Current CA RN License, BLS, ACLS and NIHSS/Stroke Scale certifications.

Experience:

Operating room/circulating nursing experience required.

  Estimated pay: $58.00 to $64.00 per hour based on qualifications (including but not limited to experience, education, certifications, and licensure where applicable).
