Job Description Specialty Cardiothoracic Surgery Facility Type Acute Care Hospital Work Environment Inpatient / Surgical Description A leading healthcare system in Oceanside, New York is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant to support a high-acuity open-heart surgery program. This role involves providing advanced surgical and inpatient care, including first assist responsibilities, patient management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The Physician Assistant will play a key role in delivering high-quality cardiovascular surgical care while demonstrating leadership and mentorship within the PA team and clinical staff. Job Responsibilities Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures as First Assist Support open-heart surgery program and perioperative care Perform vein/vessel harvesting when required Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care Conduct patient assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning Order and interpret diagnostic tests and medications Provide inpatient clinical management and care coordination Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and healthcare teams Maintain accurate documentation using EMR (Epic) Provide mentorship and leadership to PA team and staff Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program (Master’s preferred) Active New York State Physician Assistant license NCCPA certification required Current DEA registration BLS and ACLS certifications required Completion of NYS Infection Control certification Recent OR experience required Experience as Cardiothoracic Surgery First Assist and vessel harvesting preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic preferred) Working Hours Full-time – 12.5-hour shifts (Day Shift) Flexible schedule rotation.
