Summary Description
Under immediate or general supervision performs various law
enforcement duties in order to protect life and property and
provide service to the public.
THE POSITION:
Successful candidates are appointed in a non-safety capacity while
attending a 24-week P.O.S.T. Certified Basic Academy under the
sponsorship of the City of Hemet Police Department. -- -Upon
successful completion of the academy and subject to departmental
approval, the Trainee is promoted to Police Officer and paid the
Police Officer entry-level salary. -- -Once appointed to a sworn
Police Officer position, the employee must successfully complete
the Police Department's Field Training Program and serve a one-year
probationary period.
SALARY:-- -
Police Officer Trainee --- - $4,699/month-- -
*Police Officer Trainees receive 75% of the current Step A rate for
Police Officers. -- -This rate shall be applicable until a Police
Officer Trainee is moved to the classification of Police Officer,
at which time, the Police Officer shall then receive 100% of Step A
rate for Police Officers until advanced to the next step.
Sworn Police Officer - $6,265 - $8,396/month
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
-- --- - High school graduation or GED certificate.
-- - Certification/License and/or Special Requirements:
-- --- - Must have attained age 21 years upon the time of
appointment as a sworn officer.
-- --- - Must possess and maintain a valid California driver
license and satisfactory driving record.
-- --- - Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who is
eligible and has applied for citizenship.
Background:
-- --- - Must be of good moral character with no felony convictions
or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, able to pass
a comprehensive background investigation, including a polygraph
examination.
Physical Requirements:
-- --- - Uncorrected vision of 20/100 or better in both eyes and
must be corrected to 20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in the other eye.
Normal color vision.
-- --- - Normal Hearing
-- --- - Excellent physical condition must be physically capable of
performing all tasks required of a Hemet Police Officer as
determined by a physical agility test and medical evaluation.--

-- --- - Ability to perform the essential job functions associated
with law enforcement, i.e. run after fleeing suspects, accurately
use and qualify with issued equipment including firearms and
batons, drive a police vehicle for extended periods of time, have
the strength and ability to defend against attacking suspects, take
physical control of violent suspects, move, drag or carry persons
from danger.

test will receive a notification to confirm attendance. The written
exam and physical agility test will be held on the same day. --

employees in the Hemet Police Officers unit. For further

MOU.
Retirement: The City contracts with the California Public Employees
Retirement System (CalPERS).
-- --- - Classic Members: 3% at 55 Formula;-- -1959 survivor
benefit; final compensation based on single highest year; employee
contributes 12% (no Social Security deduction).
-- --- - PEPRA-- -(New) Members: 2.7% at 57 Formula; 1959 survivor
benefit; final compensation based on a three-year average; employee
contributes 50% of total normal cost, currently 14% (no Social
Security deduction).
Medical Coverage:
-- --- - The City contributes $1,100.00-- -per month toward medical
insurance for employees and their eligible dependents.
Dental & Vision Coverage:
-- --- - The City pays 100% of the premium for dental & vision
coverage for employees and their dependents.
Life & Long-Term Disability Insurance:
-- --- - The City pays 100% of the premium for a term-life
insurance policy of $50,000.

Educational Reimbursement:

Bilingual Pay:

Special Compensation:

hours of overtime pay per pay period.
-- --- - Patrol/SRO: assigned officers will receive an additional
2% base salary increase.
-- --- - Field Training Officers: assigned officers will receive an
additional 10% base salary increase.
-- --- - Mandatory Stand-by/On-call: assigned officers will receive
$125 per pay period.
Uniform Allowance:
